It’s a race that’s quickly grown in stature since its inception in 2022. It’s $3 million worth of BIG.
And it’s a race day like no other. It’s where work colleagues and friends can let down their hair on a Tuesday, enjoy some fabulous racing action and party on after the last race with a BIG name act.
Run over the famous Royal Randwick mile, 1600m, The Big Dance brings together horses that have contested a range of Country Cups across New South Wales and five selected Provincial feature races. There’s also a Wild Card race to gain last minute entry.
How it works
To earn a place in The Big Dance a horse must gain eligibility by winning or finishing second in one of the eligible races conducted over the past 12 months.
Once eligible they are placed in a ballot order and the top 20 horses (including two exemptions from the Wild Card) according to their benchmark rating will race for $3 million.
There are four emergencies.
Any Big Dance eligible race winner that doesn’t secure a place in the top 20 will head the ballot and be ensured a start in the $750,000 Little Dance.
